Unless you’re a big fan of the Daily Show, chances are you haven’t been following the race for Republican National Committee Chair. While party officials are not as important as elected officials, who is in charge of the GOP could make a big difference in how the national party treats potential Presidential candidates Dr. Ron Paul and Gary Johnson and their supporters. Our neighbors in the Republican Liberty Caucus of Wisconsin have blown the whistle on one leading candidate for the post that they say will be disastrous for members of the freedom movement who work within the Republican Party. They have personally dealt with Wisconsin GOP chair Reince Priebus and have asked the national organization to help stop his ascension to the national party.
The national Republican Liberty Caucus lists their grievances against Priebus here and call on all Republicans concerned with limited government to contact their state Republican National Committeeman/woman to urge them to vote against him. On the surface, Priebus seems like a principled Constitutionalist. “If you’re pro-abortion, pro-stimulus, pro-G.M. bailout, pro-AIG, well you know guess what, you might not be a Republican.” he claims. Now most of us would look at this list of criteria and salivate at the prospect of a GOP without proponents of such policies as George Bush, John McCain, Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, Herman Cain, and others; but the RLC ensures us that Priebus is insincere. In practice, he supports disenfranchising tea party and limited government groups with pre-primary party endorsements.
Unfortunately, Iowa’s two RNC representatives Steve Scheffler and Kim Lehmen, while otherwise good people and friendly to the local movement have endorsed Priebus. Please join us in forwarding the RLC’s talking points using your own words or their sample letter urging them to change their minds. The addresses are: KimIRLC@aol.com [Lehman] and email@example.com [Scheffler].
Neither the Republican Liberty Caucus nor Iowa Freedom Report is making any official endorsement in the race, although Michael Steele has probably been as welcoming to us as we could hope for and is the only one who is willing to take the fight for a pro-life foreign policy right to the heart of the savage warmonger Obama.
Oh, by the way, Priebus’s day job aside from running the Wisconsin GOP? He helps clients get their hands of federal stimulus money.
